Service Opportunities

Prospect UMC Family Promise
V
olunteer Opportunities

Each host week, our congregation needs 50+ volunteers to prepare meals, serve as evening and overnight hosts, coordinate activities, donate supplies and assist guests as needed. Although most hosts are adults, youth can participate as well, particularly with arranging activities for young children and helping older children with schoolwork.

Hosting Opportunities:

  1. Dinner Preparers cook a hot meal for up to 14 guests that is served at about 6:00 p.m.; the exact number of guests to cook for will be provided to you the week before (2 or 3 volunteers for each dinner meal).
  2. Dinner Hosts arrive at 5 pm (leave at 7 pm) and prepare for the guests to arrive between 5:30 and 6 pm. Dinner hosts are welcome to eat with the guests. Dinner hosts socialize with guests, welcome newcomers and assist parents with children’s needs. Dinner is informal.
  3. Fellowship Hosts arrive at 7 pm and stay until 9 pm. Fellowship hosts socialize with guests, conduct children’s activities, help with homework or assist a guest with a particular need.
  4. Overnight Hosts arrive at 9 pm, spend the night, and leave at 7 am the following morning. Two hosts are needed for this. Preferably a man and a woman. Overnight hosts bring their own bed linens. Hosts are there to make sure lights are out at the appointed time and that the guests are up and ready for the van the next morning. Overnight hosts are also available in case of emergency.

Other Volunteer Opportunities-

  1. Supplies- Volunteers are needed to donate supplies such as food, paper products, cleaning supplies, baby items and toiletries.
  2. Other Donations- We are always in need of gently used family/children’s games as well as DVD’s.
  3. Laundry- At the end of the host week, one or two volunteers are needed to wash the guests’ sheets, blankets and towels.
  4. Setup and Takedown- Volunteer teams setup accommodations on Saturday and Sunday after the 11 am service and then takedown everything and put back in storage the next Sunday morning before the 9:00 am service begins.
